Toshiba didn't give them the money yet not even sure they have the money. They're looking at bankruptcy too.

yeah... they're statement "...working to determine the "most prudent path forward" for the project, but said they anticipated that the additional cost to complete both units beyond the amounts payable ..." was four baring of taking cash, knot construction.
Don't quote as fact, but heard yesterday that SCE&G gave severance packages to 450 workers in Units 2&3. This included Unit 1 workers on loan to 2&3 for support work. Not only contract workers but also SCE&G house folks.
That job has shut down completely. Everyone was sent away yesterday and they are looking for employment elsewhere. My campground is emptying out as quick as people can get on the road.

Yep, there are approximately 480 of us total.
This came out of nowhere and caught everyone completely by surprise. Worst case scenario we were thinking was we would abandon Unit 3 and complete Unit 2. This was also the path that the board was wanting to pursue; until Santee Cooper voted to abandon both units. Economically, we could have completed a single unit, which would have kept most employees in their positions, but not by ourselves.
Talking with a friend and coworker last night, the worst part is you feel like you accomplished nothing. I've been a part of the project for almost 6 years, and we leave behind a legacy of failure and locals who are angry over their electric bill and the fact they don't get a refund for what they've paid into.
It sucks, but life works out that way sometimes. Back on the market and on to the next adventure.
