Title: Advice for Transitioning from Navy Nuke to Commercial Nuke
Post by: gypsygeologist on Oct 08, 2024, 01:42
Hi All!

My husband is navy nuke and he is currently an instructor (MMN1, almost 8 years of service) at prototype at NNPTC. His contract ends October 2025 and he would immediately like to transition to the civilian nuclear world. He is from the DFW area, so ideally, he would like to work at Comanche Peak. I have shared this forum with him to share some advice from previous posters. Unfortunately, he will not be able to get his EWS qual before his contract ends, because he was told that they are prioritizing those who are staying in. He is heartbroken that he won't receive that qual and is anxious that this will negatively reflect him when applying for jobs at the plants. I am just looking for some advice that I can share with him to prepare for this transition in the next year. What can he do to make himself more competitive?

Thank you!

Of the things worth mentioning, I will mention just one. The EWS qual. really has no impact on employment in the commercial arena, especially since it was a Navy thing. Good luck.
