In the INL decommissioning article there is a photo of the S1W prototype. The photo is a stock photo as S1W has already been demoed. I went through S1W in 72. The charging pump was a ketchup pump the main feed pumps were irrigation pumps. The building was designed to collapse in an accident at a specified pressure. I guess they assumed that everyone inside was already dead. It had a waste disposal system but originally it had an open pit for discharges, the contract to build and operate S1W was awarded in 1948 so it was built in the infancy of nuclear power. Inside the plant including the reactor compartment was very clean while I was there, any detectable contamination was rare. However, there was a sample room over the reactor compartment that as an ELT was part of our training. Didn't get close to the frisker before it alarmed with our smears. Plant slogan was "S1W First and Finest" 8)
