Title: Is pre-nuclear steel behind WWII ship targeting?

Having worked waste management for DOE demolition I have encountered tomb style body counters at a couple of sites. They are essentially a room specifically designed for the lower energy gamma from uranium. Pre-WWII ship steel was a component in each.
