Hi,
My son graduates HS in June and is hoping to get into the Nuke program. He took the ASVAB last week and got an AFQT percentile score of 77... He is over the Navy weight standards right now but it's coming down. I haven't talked to the recruiter yet but I think he told my son that once he gets below the weight limit he joins under DEP and picks a regular rate, then he can take the nuke test. Is that the way it works???
Thanks for the help.
Frank

Do not let your son sign anything, pick anything, do anything with the United States Navy until after he takes the nuke test and sees if he is eligible.
In most reality, your son has one shot at becoming a nuke and that is in the recruiting phase.
As far as his weight, get him involved in doing exercises to also make his neck bigger, trust me.
What JMK said x2 :o
If he has got a weight problem, he needs to get it under control and keep it under control. The navy doesn't mess around anymore (right now there are 3 flag officers under 2 prt failures that they are going to send packing if they fail again
