1  Career Path / Radiation Safety / Re: NUF improved ? on: Aug 22, 2014, 09:44
I will be taking the test in a couple of days. I am hoping this improvement? Is not going to be to far from the former test. Was anything added that I need to study?

What recruiting agencies are you guys going through?  I am trying to get people to stay with us during the Limerick Outage... Calling the recruiters would help!!
Thank you in advance!
PM sent.
4  Facility & Company Information / Grand Gulf / Re: Spring Outage on: Jan 20, 2012, 05:02
Here is a new twist.
Everyone working the spring outage at Grand Gulf has to take a physical to determine if they are fit to work.

If you were planning to go there, told the recruiter that you were physically capable of working, and thought you might get away with the old "I can't climb ladders, wear a respirator or put on PC's" so that you can sit by the PCM's the whole outage, you better be able to prove it.  Still, they might just decide that you can't do the work and send you home.
They do this at other plants I've been to and you still have the lazy techs. Let us know how this works for ya.

Anyone looking for a roommate? Or know a good cheap place to stay?
6  Career Path / Salary Questions / Re: Pay rates on: Dec 26, 2011, 12:19
Pay rates here at Columbia are $38.06 for Techs and $40.91 for Leads.  Annual raises depends on the contract year (3-4%).............and thanks to our 180 day outage (that was supposed to be 70) you wont find a Tech who hasn't made at least $140,000 this year.  Some of us lucky folks have made $160,000+  Cheesy

P.S.  You're welcome Uncle Sam (jerk)
Any chance they maybe hiring any time soon?
7  Career Path / Radiation Safety / Re: JR RP Tech jobs on: Dec 23, 2011, 04:52
Chasing outages is the only way I know to get your time in. Now is the time to call either Bartlett or Atlantic to get a slot for the spring. They maybe staffed. I wish you luck. P.S. Don't be lazy.

The best story teller. Always a great mentor. I know I can always count on a great reference from him.
10  Facility & Company Information / Sequoyah / Re: Sequoyah - Lodging on: Dec 09, 2011, 04:24
I will be heading to Sequoyah in Feb.  any updates on places to stay that is pet friendly?  Thanks,
This is where I stayed last outage. Very reasonable rates and they are pet friendly.
Its around 15 to 20 minutes from the plant. Good area with lots of places to eat to choose from or you can cook right in your room. Laundry on site, clean rooms, grill patio area, double bed, cable tv, internet, full size fridge. Rates may have changed but I was paying just under 200 a week.
11  Career Path / Radiation Safety / Re: Looking for a House Job on: Dec 04, 2011, 06:33
18.1 versus 3.1 all over again.

Not looking for a debate on the difference between an 18.1 and a 3.1. I know I still have more time to become a full fledged grown up. There are a few plants out there that will take 18.1's as House Mouses. Just throwing out some networking to find one. Thanks.
12  Career Path / Radiation Safety / Looking for a House Job on: Dec 03, 2011, 07:16
I have finally reached 18.1 status now. I am looking to settle down somewhere so that I can spend more time with the family without having to travel all over the U.S. without them. So if there are any house openings out there let me know.

Can't remember which unit but Sequoyah is supposed to do one in 2012.
16  Career Path / Money Matters / Re: Unemployment Claims on: Jan 31, 2011, 07:56
Well I exhausted my benefits in VT, so I told VT that I had worked in IA so they sent all my info to them. I call IA and they say I can't file with them cause I can file in AL. I don't want to file in AL because its not that much. I go back to work in 2 weeks and should be working till May. I wonder if I wait till then to file if I would be able to file with IA and get accepted?

Can anyone help me with this matter?

18  Career Path / Tax Q&A / Re: No Per Diem On First Job? on: Jan 22, 2011, 04:51
I will basically be giving up my permanent position at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station but if thats what I have to do to get in and my prove myself, then it should be worth it.

Ok WHY??? What are going for? Do you want to travel? Are you not happy at SONGS? I'm confused.
19  Career Path / Tax Q&A / Re: No Per Diem On First Job? on: Jan 21, 2011, 11:33
I may be traveling out of state for my first Decon job, I have nuclear experience and held unescorted access for the last 2 years. Is it true that on your first Decon job that you dont get per diem?

I know it's a little hard to swallow but if that's all ya got then take it. Show them your a hard worker even when you think no one is looking and you will be remembered for the next outage. Right before you leave there give the recruiters a call and see what else you can do. Keep your name fresh in there mind and you will soon be on your way to a career.

Oh and cash is not going to fall out the sky anytime soon, so be patient.
20  Career Path / Getting in / Re: Getting hired as a Decon. on: Jan 18, 2011, 10:40
If you don't call them, they assume you don't need a job.

That's the key. You need to keep em on speed dial.
21  Facility & Company Information / Point Beach / Re: Point Beach Lodging on: Jan 13, 2011, 08:29

22  Career Path / Money Matters / Re: Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation question on: Jan 03, 2011, 04:49
I never heard of a state that taxed UI.

They only tax it for federal not state.
23  Career Path / Training, Tests & Education / Re: Recent Graduate with Nuclear Tech. Associate's Degree on: Dec 30, 2010, 07:45
In addition to working your Bartlett contacts, I would also seriously consider contacting D.Z. Atlantic about their opportunities. My personal experience is that they will pay you MUCH better, give you more "time earned" towards becoming a Sr. Tech for your studies (which Bartlett is very hesitant to do), and seem to appreciate & cultivate their Jr. Techs more (paying bonuses, better per diem, better communication when you call, etc.).

Well that all depends on where your loyalty is. If you're loyal to Bartlett they will get you work. If you're loyal to Atlantic they will get you work. Making a good impression with the utilities you work for is even better. If you work hard and show your worth the utilities will want you back.

From my experience so far, you are going to have to put your time in to become a senior to get a house job. None the less there are ways to get your resume out there, but it's like fishing, you may throw everything you got and not get a bite.

Here is a website that will help http://www.nucleartourist.com/us/address.html

Good Luck out there and listen to these guys some of them know what they're talking about.
24  Career Path / Salary Questions / Re: Fair compensation? on: Dec 23, 2010, 07:48
Let-it-ride and illegalsmile you guys are right. I listen to those guys more than almost anyone in the industry I have met. They are my life blood. Thanks guys for the advice. I can only hope to be half the tech they are. Merry Christmas.
25  Career Path / Salary Questions / Re: Fair compensation? on: Dec 20, 2010, 10:26
Being a Jr. HP since 2008 I have worked all over. 20/hr. is more than fair for being local. Don't push it cause there is alot of guys out there right now that would go there for less just to get their time in. Jrs. will do whatever it takes to get their time in to move up to a more desirable ANSI 3.1. That is where the money is and what all the utilities are looking for.
