Time between schools for NUPOC
« on: Dec 24, 2012, 09:28 »
First off, I apologize if this topic is already somewhere on this website, I haven't been able to find it.  All the information I have found has been about the enlisted side.  I hear that there is about a 4 month delay between OCS and NNPS (I guess depending on when you go to OCS).  Does anyone know what the time is in between NNPS and NPTU? As well as NPTU and SOBC?

Very few junior officers are currently getting to the boat as ensigns.  This changes continually.

I commissioned in May 2011. Started NPS in November 2011, finished in May 2012, then was on hold until SOBC which was late Aug through late October and am on hold again until either late Jan or Mar or beyond.

So Racoon- 1) They are now sending people to SOBC before NPTU?
2) What are you doing while you are on hold?

Also thanks for the information!

As far back as 2004, we were sending guys to SOBC before nuke school.  Going to SOBC during nuclear training is not a new idea.

Do they always send people to SOBC first or does it just depend on the situation?

Back in 2004, some guys that were engineering majors with high undergrad GPAs were sent to sub school prior o NPS.  This was because we were starting "level loading" of officer class sizes and it was thought that those guys would definitely make it through the nuke pipeline.  Now, for other reasons that I won't expound on, a lot of sub officers are going to sub school between nuke school and prototype.

Cheers,

GC

So during the holds, are they sending us back to the recruiting station, doing paperwork in Charleston...?

I graduated from OCS in Oct 2011.
~4 month hold so I did OHARP from Nov 2011 - Mar 2013.
NPS Mar 2012 - Sept 2012
2.5 month hold at NPS. Some students are assigned for small office work and the rest muster every morning. Examples: FEP, CTE, Track, SARP driver, volunteering somewhere, etc.
Currently in SOBC (Dec 2012 - Feb 2013)

I am suppose to start NPTU in March but gossip says there may be more hold. I have conflicting information about the hold times for Charleston and NY since people always have buddies telling different information.
