Security Clearances

In reviewing some job descriptions I see that I am very qualified, but do not have the proper security clearances. many seem to be related to DOE positions. Is there a document anywhere that explains the different levels of security clearances and what it takes to acquire them? There have been several jobs which I would have loved to apply, but did not have the clearance. I have been cleared for unescorted access to a nuclear plant. Is that equivalent to any DOE clearance? Thanks
