If you have a lot of stuff, split move is the way to go. If not, and if you can fit all your stuff in your vehicle, go for the DITY. I rented a trailer and all that to move from NPTU Ballston Spa, and ended up stranded in New Mexico for two days because my advance from PSD got messed up. Like all dealings with the Navy, be sure to have a backup plan, and the funds to do it. That all being said, a DITY move is actually a pretty good time to make that road trip across the country and see some cool stuff, as long as you don't have to worry about U-Haul fees and stuff like that. Even with my U-Haul crap and the slight snag in NM, I saw alot of friends and family all over the country that I hadn't seen in a while, and ended up eating a home cooked meal every night xcept for one or two. I ended up catching a hockey game in St. Louis too (go Blues), so there are a lot of things you can stop and do along the way as long as you plan ahead. And for the dig-its, Los Alamos, NM has a decent muesuem and depending on the time of year, you can actually see Test Site Trinity. There are security issues and stuff to work out though, so contact them a few months in advance. Also, if you can find someone else headed your way, it can be pretty cool to plan out a convoy type move. When we went from Charleston to New York, we had a 4 car train over 3 days, and we bought some radios to keep in touch. We were averaging about 75 miph all the way up the coast, and we saved a lot on hotel rooms and whatnot.
