The INL is one of nine multi-program national laboratories owned by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The laboratory is operated by Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA) under the direction of DOE.

INL is home to one of the largest concentrations of technical professionals in the northern Rocky Mountain region and has some of the most advanced research programs in the world.
