Job description

Firewatch responsibilities predominantly include maintaining assigned posts or performing routine 'walk-downs' in various areas of the plant to serve as an independent assessor of conditions in areas where a greater fire potential may exist or to meet compensatory action requirements. The compensatory actions are normally taken due to inoperable fire detection, fire suppression, or fire barriers. Personnel assigned to Firewatch duties are required to visually monitor assigned areas of the plant to detect conditions that could cause a fire. In the event a fire is discovered, these personnel are required to report the condition per the applicable plant procedure.

Firewatch personnel will use appropriate personal protective equipment, which includes safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hard hat, hearing protection, various types of gloves - vinyl, leather etc., as conditions warrant. Firewatch personnel are required to use/wear the appropriate safety equipment for each applicable task and may establish requirements for the use of protective equipment by other work groups.

Operating specialized equipment per procedures & training (e.g., fire extinguishers)
Be able and willing to access the Radiological Controlled Areas within the plant. This includes understanding and practicing the proper protocol for entering and exiting these areas.
While on assignment, knowing the appropriate phone numbers to call for notification purposes in case of fire or other issues preventing completion of assigned work duties (i.e., areas not accessible, personnel sickness, etc.)
Adhering to BHI Energy and Site regulations, policies, and procedures.
