Compensation:        Grade 32: $100,562 - $122,909 (Annual)
Grade 34: $118,151 – $144,372 (Annual)
West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION        
The Industrial Hygienist will assist with the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS        

Education/Experience:
Grade 32:
•        BA/BS in Industrial Hygiene, engineering, chemistry, physics or other related science/engineering area required
•        A minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience or the recognized equivalent.

Grade 34:
•        BA/BS in Industrial Hygiene, engineering, chemistry, physics or other related science/engineering area required
•        A minimum of five (9) years of related professional experience or the recognized equivalent.
Licenses/Certifications:
•        Certified Industrial Hygienist highly preferred.

Other Requirements:
•        Must possess complete knowledge and understanding of industrial hygiene theories, principles, techniques, and policies and apply these theories and techniques to successfully complete a wide variety of complex assignments.

•        Must be able to use independent judgment to provide solutions to a wide range of complex problems. Receives assignments in terms of required objectives, establishes own priorities and guidelines and follows broadly defined procedures.
•        Must be able to make decisions within established guidelines, exercise initiative in completing recurring assignments independently and determine which methods are applicable in any given situation.
•        Must justify, defend, negotiate, or settle matters involving significant or controversial issues.
•        Must be able to interface with individuals or groups from inside or outside of the organization, and senior management. May be required to make presentations to employees, managers, senior managers and/or others.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK        
1.        Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
2.        Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
3.        Identifies potential safety hazards by investigating adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting and other conditions which may affect employee health, comfort of efficiency.
4.        Eliminates or minimizes hazardous situations by conducting evaluations of exposure to noise, lead, asbestos, and recommending measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
5.        Promotes a safe work environment by collaborating with CHBWV Safety group, Radiation & Industrial Safety Manager, Site Occupational Medical Director and other Industrial Hygienists to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions and equipment.
6.        Prepare reports including observations, analysis of contaminants, recommendations for control and correction of hazards.
7.        Guides and promotes a safe work environment by participating in educational meetings to instruct employees in matters pertaining to occupational health and prevention of accidents.
8.        Conducts assessments of various areas of the Industrial Health program.
9.        Assist department manager in identifying and implementing areas of improvement and programmatic corrective actions.
10.        Regular attendance is required.
11.        Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
