Job description
Overview:

US ITER is a $6.5 Billion, Department of Energy multi-laboratory project that executes the United States (US) contributions to the ITER Project in France lead by the ITER International Organization (IO). The US is a non-host partner in the world’s largest and unprecedented scientific partnership as part of a seven-member international collaboration which includes the partner Domestic Agencies (DA’s) China, European Union, India, Japan, Korea, and Russia to design and construct a fusion nuclear reactor aimed at establishing the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion energy and create a pathway toward a zero-carbon society. The US ITER project is hosted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee. Partner labs are Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). The US ITER Systems Engineer is responsible for the application of Systems Engineering supporting the design, fabrication, testing/acceptance and delivery of systems, structures and components produced by US ITER for the ITER project. The position involves working with other engineers and managers in an engineering and manufacturing environment. A Project Engineer with broad experience in requirements integration is preferred.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

· Work with design teams in integrating strong system engineering practices in the design evolution of:

o Requirements development and management.

o Configuration management/change control.

o Interface and configuration model management.

o Deliverables planning and management.

· Review of engineering and manufacturing deliverables (documents, drawings, etc.), procedures, etc.

· Support development and documentation of ITER engineering plans, procedures, deliverables, processes and workflows.

· Coordinate preparations for readiness/design reviews.

· Working in accordance with IO Agreement (Procurement Arrangement).

· Working as US ITER team member with the ITER organization and international partners.



Basic Qualifications:

· A Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study and 5 to 7+ years of relevant experience.

· Solid understanding of systems engineering including requirements management, configuration management, interface control, specification development, and procedure development.

· Experience on large scale, integrated engineering projects throughout the design and manufacturing lifecycle.

· Must be a detail-oriented self-starter, able to work independently and in a team environment.

· Must work well with diverse spectrum of personnel (people/soft skillset).

· Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate with members of the organization at all levels and with suppliers.

· Must have effective problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.

· Ability to work fluently with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).

Preferred Qualifications:

· A Masters degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field with 4 to 6+ years of experience in design, construction and operation of hardware and/or systems

· INCOSE certification as a Professional Systems Engineer or willingness to pursue SE Certification is highly desirable.

· Knowledge of US ITER and IO procedures is highly desirable.

· Familiarity or experience with fusion energy technology, large electromechanical devices and/or software development
