Job description
Under the direction of the Nuclear Monitoring Engineering Supervisor, performs professional and technical tasks involving the application of engineering technology for design, development, analysis, and management of the IEMA Remote Monitoring System (RMS).

1.        Creates and maintains graphical displays of RMS data. Provides training on RMS data displays.

2.        Evaluates reactor parameters related to utility safety systems, emergency operating plans, and emergency actions levels.

3.        Specifies and develops software for the analysis of data from the IEMA RMS, including coordinating the implementation of advanced software on Agency computers.

4.        Manages and plans the remote monitoring reactor data link (RDL) for all nuclear reactors in Illinois. Acts as a liaison between licensees and the Agency in the coordination and implementation of RDL. Selects reactor parameters to be monitored and coordinates this selection with other offices in the Agency. Supports rulemaking for RDL.

5.        Provides support in reviewing, preparing comments, and making appropriate recommendations on utility and Nuclear Regulatory Commission documents that pertain to the responsibilities of the Nuclear Monitoring Engineering Section.

6.        Performs the duties of assigned team position as specified by the Standard Operating Procedures of the Illinois Plan for Radiological Accidents. Remains available for call-back during emergency conditions at nuclear facilities.

7.        Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Description of ideal candidate
Requires the equivalent of (a) a Master’s degree in Engineering; or (b) a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

Desires two years of appropriate experience.

Requires extensive knowledge of engineering principles and applications.

Requires extensive knowledge of nuclear systems.

Requires ability to satisfy the requirements of 10CFR73.55, thereby qualifying for unescorted access to operating nuclear generating facilities.
Desires knowledge and experience related to integration of diverse computer programming languages, platforms, and technologies.

Benefits and Other Informations:
Anticipated starting salary: $6186- $7352 per month
Full Bargaining Unit Range: $5795 - $8873 per month
