Job Description
Reports To:
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for the development of the BHI Safety Program and all pertinent procedures needed to support its standard implementation across a site. Submit all program and procedural content for approval, maintain administrative control, audit compliance and review the recordability of work related incidents, injuries, and illnesses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
*Support and implement the BHI Safety & Health Plan at the field level in coordination with the FMC Site Manager with efforts focused on BHI core value of Safety.
*Creation of Job Hazards Analysis (JHA) standards for routine and non-routine work tasks.
*Responsible for conducting and/or observing the performance of safety “tool box” meetings and Pre-Job Briefings.
*Conduct weekly/monthly safety meetings with work crews documenting attendees and tracking topics discussed during weekly/monthly meetings.
*Oversight of the employee’s overall safety awareness. Make on-going shift safety inspections of the site(s) and public areas, and take necessary and timely corrective action(s) to eliminate unsafe acts and/or conditions. Record observations as directed using an approved observation form.
*Ensure that all employees, including employees of sub-contractor tiers, vendors and service providers, comply with site safety rules and regulations.
*Ensure that the sub-contractor’s reports are completed according to the established expectations within the master contract between BHI and the client.
*Provide for control, availability and use of safety equipment, including employee personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain effective accountability for available safety equipment, prepare necessary order requests, and facilitate safety equipment purchases with the approval of the FMC Site Manager.
*Evaluate operations and materials to determine the presence or potential presence of hazardous environments. Identify substances, agents and environments that present a hazard and recommend actions for their control.
*Responsible for personnel safety training of identified equipment and safety hazards to the workforce and safety hazards that could result from the performance of contract related work scope not currently identified but requiring safety evaluation prior to performance.
*Responsible for tracking BHI and site specific safety metrics, reports and milestones.
*Responsible for the documentation, accountability and required notifications of safety related accidents, incidents and near misses. Reporting requirements are established within the BHI Employee Handbook, BHI Safety Manual, and Master Contract with the site. Knowledge of the different reporting requirements is an expectation and should be understood by the Safety Representative.
*Responsible for investigating accidents, incidents, injuries and near miss events occurring to, by or with BHI employees assigned to support the site project. Investigations should be focused on determining causes, extent of condition, unsafe acts and events, and identification of corrective actions to be implemented in an effort to prevent reoccurrence.
*Responsible for additional duties or assignments that may be given by Site Manager or senior management determined to necessary for the success of the on-going project at the site.
*Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment as well as an industrial environment observing employees, their progress with assigned work, and interfacing with both employees and client employees with a moderate to high noise level. The employee is required to don the appropriate personal protective equipment while traversing an industrial environment requiring various degrees of protection.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science, engineering or other demonstrated equivalent business experience with three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in Health and Safety. They should have a strong working knowledge of federal and any relevant state safety and health regulations. They should have demonstrated experience in leading, motivating and coaching a large employee base; strong sense of urgency in support of providing best in class customer service; excellent verbal and written communications skills; strong planning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills; and a demonstrated ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing to all levels of an organization. They should be proficient in Microsoft Office software. Proven ability to demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior, integrity and trust. Knowledge of BHI Energy processes and procedures and utilization of developed tools to most effectively manage work is essential. Must actively demonstrate the BHI company values and support the BHI Ethics and Standards. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a working knowledge of BHI and client technical manuals and procedures; to pass BHI and client specific training and qualifications as required; subject to personnel call out as required in support of nuclear station emergent work requirements; to work overtime, to include shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed; and be able to pass all background and screening requirements for the position, to include drug and/or alcohol screening.
