Job description
Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and Administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC), a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Science laboratory operated by Stanford University.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance SLAC's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from SLAC staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

We are seeking an experienced, senior Electrical Engineer to provide subject matter expert support on the Critical Utilities Infrastructure Revitalization (CUIR) project. CUIR is a line-item project directly funded by Department of Energy. The purpose of CUIR is to modernize SLAC’s utility infrastructure to provide reliable and sustainable utility systems for delivering world-class science and enhancing the impact of DOE’s scientific programs.

The offered position is for a term of two-years, renewable on an annual basis thereafter for the duration of the CUIR project. The level of support will range from 20 to 30 hours per week for the duration of the contract. The assigned work can be performed remotely but the senior electrical engineer must be able to travel to SLAC for site visits with durations ranging from 1 to 4 days, when at least 2 week’s notice is provided. The amount of travel and on-site work will be limited to 10% (up to 20 days per year). Domestic travel and lodging will be paid by CUIR and capped at the federal per-dim rate for San Mateo County.

Responsibilities will include:
• Interface with SLAC scientific user community to develop electrical requirements
• Provide electrical engineering leadership on the development of specifications, drawings, and designs by SLAC
• Review technical deliverables such as reports, calculations, drawings, and documentation prepared by manufacturers and subcontractors
• Attend project design meetings and technical change control meetings, and participate in critical design reviews
• Act as the electrical engineering representative of CUIR, making presentations at management meetings involving SLAC, DOE and other stakeholders upon request
• Participate in inspections of electrical equipment at the time of delivery to ensure quality of the delivered product
• Lead design reviews, address technical challenges and promote safety by design on CUIR’s electrical scope
• Collaborate with external design consultants and internal stakeholders to develop innovative and cost-effective design solutions aligned with project requirements
• Assist CUIR with evaluating and reviewing submittals from external consultants and contractors
