Job description
MATRIX is looking for Technical Field Advisors (TFA) across the U.S. who will support 2026 Spring Outage work for Steam Supply Systems projects in the nuclear sector, working to plan, execute, and deliver assigned scopes of work. These roles are especially suited to individuals who have previously worked at nuclear generating stations within the operations, maintenance or quality organizations. The TFA will serve as an on-site subject matter expert supporting installation, maintenance, modification, and troubleshooting of nuclear steam supply systems and related equipment. The TFA provides direct technical oversight and guidance to utility clients, contractors, and craft labor during field execution to ensure compliance with the client’s standards, regulatory requirements, safety, quality, and project schedule. This role bridges engineering design intent and field execution, ensuring nuclear projects are completed safely, on-time, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical direction and oversight during installation, outage, and maintenance activities involving steam supply systems (e.g., steam generators, turbines, heat exchangers, piping systems, and associated components).
Interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and specifications to guide client and craft personnel through complex nuclear field work.
Ensure all activities comply with NRC regulations, INPO guidelines, site procedures, and the client’s quality standards.
Monitor work progress, identify risks or deviations, and recommend corrective actions to maintain schedule and performance goals.
Lead pre-job briefings, safety meetings, and post-job reviews with site teams.
Document field activities, prepare technical reports, and provide real-time feedback to engineering and project management teams.
Serve as the primary technical interface between the client and customer site leadership.
Support outage planning, work package development, and readiness reviews.
Mentor less experienced field engineers, apprentices, or craft leads as part of the client’s workforce development strategy.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, related Engineering discipline or equivalent technical training or work experience.
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in nuclear plant systems, preferably in steam supply, turbine-generator, or balance of plant systems.
Prior field engineering, commissioning, or outage execution experience required.
Strong understanding of NRC, INPO, and site-specific regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated ability to interpret technical drawings, procedures, and specifications.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface across utility, contractor, and client teams.
Preferred Skills
Experience with steam supply systems or OEM-equivalent nuclear equipment.
Prior experience as a Field Engineer, TFA, or Project Engineer in nuclear or heavy industrial settings.
Familiarity with Primavera P6, outage management tools, and digital field reporting systems.
Active nuclear site access or prior unescorted access clearance.
Competitive pay rates and per diem for travel assignments.
