Job description

Provides first line supervision of Entergy full time and temporary Chemistry personnel in a safe, productive manner, manages multiple and possibly conflicting priorities, and demonstrates proficiency at managing a multi-disciplined group, possibly including union and contractor oversight.


SET and reinforce standards and expectations through monitoring individual behaviors on a regular basis for the application of Chemistry Fundamentals and take action to correct performance gaps.
PROVIDE technical direction and supervision for chemistry duties.
ENSURE technicians have the tools and necessary oversight to effectively apply chemistry programs and chemistry controls.
IMPLEMENT technical specification/TRM chemistry surveillances.
VERIFY all identified procedure revisions, updates or enhancements which are required to perform an activity are promptly completed.
ENSURE that personnel are qualified and proficient to do the work they are assigned.
DELEGATE and track assignments and sampling schedule. Close activities in the work management process when assigned.
ENSURE chemistry logs and inputs to NuclearIQ are kept current
ENSURE condition reports are written for adverse trends or out-of-specification conditions. (See Attachment 9.1 for examples)
REVIEW and validate chemistry data. Validation of data may be delegated.
ENSURE instrumentation, in lab and in plant, are maintained to provide accurate and representative results.
COORDINATE shift coverage for vacations and illnesses.
ENSURE coverage is adequate to comply with fatigue rule.
REVISE and maintain Standing Orders and Night Orders.
ENSURE ALARA is practiced by Chemistry personnel.
PROVIDE recommendations to Operations for any chemistry activities that are needed but that are not on the schedule.
PROVIDE direction to Operations for change out of filters/polishers or changes to flow rates or chemical additions.
INTERFACE with training to provide, schedule and review initial and continuing training for the chemistry technicians.
PROVIDE, monitor and/or schedule the OJT and TPE for the Chemistry technician trainees.
SUPPORT training by reviewing lesson plans and approve objectives, as needed
PARTICIPATE fully in continuing training with their crews to provide oversight and to reinforce expectations.
PROVIDE back-up to the Chemistry Manager as needed through development as a “Ready-Now” candidate.
MENTOR staff to develop “Ready-Now” candidates for promotion within the department, site or fleet.
PARTICIPATE in peer calls per EN-FAP-OM-024 and Working Group calls per EN-FAP-CY-003.
SUPERVISE the Chemistry Calibration program for process systems
REVIEW the Daily Chemistry Report for completeness, correctness and ensuring distribution. See attachment 9.6 for examples.
ENSURE housekeeping standards are maintained in the laboratories and work areas.


Minimum education required of the position

High school diploma or equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience required of the position

5 years of experience in the related field. (B.S. in Engineering or related technical degree may be credited for 3 years of experience.)

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

2 years of technical training and technical proficiency in the assigned area.
Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation.
Proficiency with current computer business applications.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

SRO or certification on BWR or PWR (desired). Candidates for this position must meet requirements specified in ANSI/ANS Standards and Regulatory Guidelines. In addition, site Technical Specifications, FSAR, or procedures may contain additional requirements. Hiring Managers are required to submit attachment 9.1 from EN-HR-137 for any candidate selected for this job. Candidates must meet or exceed ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978. ANSI Section 4.3.2 - Supervisors Not Requiring NRC Licenses must have: High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in craft or discipline he/she supervises.
