Position Summary

Perform and coordinate financial modeling of Corporate Development initiatives that will position the Company for long-term growth and create value for our customers and shareholders. Responsible for running and maintaining Corporate Development’s financial model used to evaluate potential business opportunities. This position will also assist the AVP of Corporate Development and other members of the team in the development of corporate development strategies.

 

Department Summary

The corporate development team at Xcel is responsible for negotiating and executing mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures to enhance financial performance and corporate capabilities. It leads efforts to evaluate, recommend, and develop strategic growth opportunities in coordination with Xcel senior leadership. It is responsible for developing and executing on asset level strategies focused on renewable energy and new energy technologies to enhance long term growth and positioning in the market for the company. It develops and manages a methodology for assessment and review of the Xcel business portfolio for financial contribution and strategic fit. It implements and manages a process for the screening and evaluation of business development opportunities and competitive threats.


Essential Responsibilities

 

 

  • Applies knowledge of financial modeling to measure, analyze, and forecast potential impacts of acquisitions, divestiture opportunities, financial transactions and corporate development activities, with a strong focus around generation assets. Work closely with Corporate Development team members to promptly and accurately model projects under various scenarios and sensitivities.
  • Collaborate with Company experts to develop model inputs and assumptions. Analyze model output and identify unusual data or unexpected results. Effectively communicate results through concise oral and written communications.
  • Support the development of revenue requirement models for Resource Planning’s IRP software for purposes of generating PVRR and PVSC impacts of proposed projects.
  • Provide timely and accurate assistance to Regulatory and Legal in preparing petitions for approval of proposed projects. Prepare responses to information requests as needed.
  • Maintain the Corporate Development financial model. Find ways to enhance the model design, capabilities, flexibility, and ease of use.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years finance or accounting experience in the electric and gas utility industry or related experience.
  • Thorough understanding of revenue requirements across Company jurisdictions.
  • In-depth knowledge of valuation principles.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated skills in analysis, problem solving, customer service and relationship building.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office applications.
