Expected salary range of $192,600 to $214,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

An experienced energy attorney, with a focus on retail electricity and natural gas transactions, who works independently and has major matter, team or client responsibilities. Work generally involves handling matters of very substantial importance.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs as a specialist in the evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and implementation of complex retail electricity and natural gas commodity transactions.
  • Provides technical and expert legal services to business units, primarily relating to retail electricity and natural gas, and other retail energy transactions.
  • Drafts and negotiates a variety of agreements related to retail electricity/natural gas and other retail energy transactions, including enabling agreements (master electricity and gas supply agreements, transaction documents, NDAs, vendor agreements, marketing agreements, broker agreements, etc.).
  • Drafts detailed product contract documents based on general overview and structure from commercial teams. 
  • With little supervision, plans, conducts and supervises large and complex energy commodity transactions, including evaluating such transactions for both legal and business risks and advising clients accordingly.
  • Prepares, and revises as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for all matters involving outside counsel.
  • Other projects / duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions.
  • At least 5 to 8 years of professional experience in a specialized area of law.
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the legal field to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and on ongoing knowledge of federal or state law. Must have the ability to communicate clearly ? both orally and in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 3+ years? experience handling retail energy commodity transactional work.
  • Experience working with business to properly structure complex energy commodity transactions.
  • Experience with master energy supply agreements, energy transaction documents, and other related documents such as NDAs.
  • Experience working with SaaS products and transaction documents.
