Job Summary

Dominion Energy Virginia?s Electric Transmission ? Substation Engineering group is seeking motivated and detail-oriented engineers and technical specialists to join the Protection & Control (P&C) Design team. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining critical protection and control design packages that support the safe and reliable operation of the electric grid (11kV?500kV).

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, demonstrates attention to detail in design documentation, and is capable of working collaboratively across multiple engineering disciplines. Candidates should be comfortable developing technical design packages, applying engineering standards, and supporting projects from concept through detailed design.

In this role, the successful candidate(s) will:

• Develop and modify protection and control design packages for substation projects, including relay functionals logic diagrams, elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, communications diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of material



• Coordinate with cross-functional partners (Physical Substation Engineering, Relay Settings, Communications, Transmission Line, construction, and field teams) to ensure complete and constructible design deliverables



• Support project and conceptual engineering teams in defining scope, design requirements, and project deliverables



• Independently develop protection system designs for complex projects in accordance with applicable standards and company practices

This position may be filled at the Associate Engineer, Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist I/II level, depending on the candidate?s education, experience, and demonstrated capabilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry include the following:

For both Engineering Technical Specialist and Engineer series, candidates must have the following qualifications:

Associate Engineer : 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience

Engineer : 2+ years of of relevant engineering experience

Engineering Technical Specialist I : 0-2 years of relevant work experience in a technical role with a preferred Bachelor?s Degree (Or 2 years of relevant work experience in a technical role with an Associate Degree)

Engineering Technical Specialist II : 2+ years of relevant work experience in a technical role with a preferred Bachelor?s Degree (Or 5 years of relevant work experience in a technical role with an Associate Degree)

Industry & Technical Knowledge

• Experience in the electric utility industry is preferred; substation Physical or Protection & Control (P&C) engineering experience is highly desired



• Working knowledge of transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment



• Familiarity with electromechanical and/or microprocessor-based protection and control systems



• Ability to read and interpret electrical design documents such as one-line diagrams, relay functionals, logic diagrams, elementary diagrams, and wiring diagrams

Engineering & Design Skills

• Ability to apply engineering principles and standard design practices to develop practical design solutions and meet project requirements and independently produce complete, high-quality project deliverables, including engineering drawing packages, bills of material, wire tags, cable memos, and For Wiring Only packages, in alignment with project requirements.



• Experience using CAD design software such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD



• Ability to review designs for accuracy and ensure alignment with applicable standards, codes, and company practices

Project & Problem-Solving Skills

• Strong planning, organization, and time management skills



• Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize effectively



• Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capability

Communication & Teamwork

• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation



• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment



• Comfortable coordinating with cross-functional teams to support project development

Computer Skills

• Strong proficiency with standard computer applications (e.g., Bluebeam, Microsoft Applications: Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, OneNote, etc.)



• Ability to perform engineering calculations and use technical software

Education Requirements

Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor

Preferred discipline(s): Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology

Summer 2026 graduates may be considered for this position

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following educational criteria must be met:

• Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or



• Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or



• Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or



• Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist , you must meet one of the following criteria:

• 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or



• 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or



• 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or



• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Note: Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.

For Nuclear employees, this ANSI standard must be met, all of which is met or exceeded in the Engineer series job summaries with the exception of the Nuclear Power experience requirement of at least 1 year:

ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 Education requirements: Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science. Minimum experience for the position: Related experience which shall include 2 years; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 year.
