Duane Arnold Nuclear Power Plant

The spent fuel pool at the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Palo, Iowa, is seen in this 1995 file photo. The Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear plant, was taken out of service on Sunday, May 19, 2002, to repair condenser tubes in the circulating water system. The plant generates 580 megawatts of electricity, enough to serve an estimated 432,000 homes.
