Ashtabula Quench

The newly extruded uranium metal, hot out of the press, is cooled in air for 6 minutes, then dunked in a quench tank. Quenching sends clouds of steam mixed with uranium oxide into the factory air. Reactive Metals, Incorporated, Ashtabula, Ohio. June 19, 1984.
