Elk River Power Plant

Elk River began operation burning coal and oil. Beginning in 1963, the site hosted a 22-MW demonstration nuclear unit, and was then reconverted to coal and oil in 1968, and converted again to RDF in 1989. Daily fuel burn is about 1,250 tons, derived from 1,500 tons of MSW collected from five Minnesota counties.
