Getting out in 8 months

ET2, didn't reenlist, getting out in 8 months.  What exactly is required to get a job at a civilian Plant?  Due to various circumstances(on hold for awhile, shipyard for 2 years and an RC Div hazing incident that got almost everyone involved kicked off the boat and out of the Navy) I have been in for about 5 1/2 yrs without fully qualifying, except quals at prototype.  How much would this affect my chances of getting a job at a plant?

Getting out in 8 months?  Do you still have the ability to qualify? I know that your boat should have a provisional qual if you are not steaming.  Other than that, get your Thomas Edison degree if you haven't done anything with regards to education yet.  It'll only take you about a year, and its an edge (especially if you have nothing else going for you).  I wouldn't know, but I am pretty sure that most companies look at the whole situation.  So if you didn't qualify anything, be prepared to explain it.

you'll get a job.  power plants need people.  if you find it tougher to get a job doing exactly what you want, take a job that is easier to get (like equipment operator or junior HP tech contractor).  That way you get your foot in the door and can basically "reset" your resume.  Plus getting into any nuclear plant will give you access to plenty of people who will give you the scoop while you are on the job.  Even a low paying job will be good enough at first..you'll be paid by the hour and 1.5x for OT!  it is such a sweet feeling after averaging 3 bucks an hour for 6 years..... ::)

I'm on another boat now.  I should at least qualify ro but not sure about sro at this point.  I'm on a boomer now, previously fast attack.  I will have one patrol before I get out.  Previously qualified up through beq on old boat.

SRO (Shutdown Reactor Operator) won't matter when you get out. RO matters, EWS would be the next significant qual as far as future commercial plants will view your experience.
And thanks for your service!
