unescorted clearance question - Sealed Case
« on: Feb 10, 2009, 10:54 »
I had a minor misdemeanor related to my conceal carry license sealed. Now I am sure the FBI still has this in their files. They have everything. According to the documents I received from the state I should not have to disclose this and can legally claim I have no convictions.  Dose anyone have any experience with this. Also it was 9 years ago.

Thanks,

just my opinion, if it was 9 years ago and only a minor misdemeanor I would report it.

Report it.

They will see it.  It may, or may not, count against you if you report it. It WILL count against you if you don't report it.

Just dont say you hear voices and like to sell flowers on your psyche test...and just tell em everything if it was over 9 yrs ago it will be a minor point more than likely.
I think maybe I shouldn't have taken the blue pill after all...damn...

You answers should be in response to the questions.
If you are asked if you were ever arrested, then you must answer that arrest point.  Were you arrrested or were you cited?  If merely sited, then the answer to the security question would be no.  If you were arrested and then charged with the misdemeanor, then the answer would be yes.
If the security question is time based, then your answer plays to that also,  Some questions will be along the lines of 'Have you ever been arrested (or convicted) within the last 5 years?'  In which case, assuming this carry permit misdemeanor is your only problem, you would answer 'No'.

Always answer the question asked truthfully.  Do not make assumptions of the question.  Generally speaking, misdemeanors are not problematic, especially if all penalities have been fulfilled.

The reason that they have you do these forms is 1/2 to possibly find something their background checks might miss, and 1/2 to verify that they can trust you.  They do see everything on your criminal history report, so they really don't need to ask you.  One of the key items in giving someone unescorted access to a nuclear plant is trustworthyness.  If they find you trying to hide something, you will be blacklisted, if you come out and tell them, as long as it is a minor offense it should have minimal to no impact on your inprocessing.
