Having seen useless tragedies like this in the past; and now being on the outside looking in I wonder how the Navy will deal with the "staff". I'm sure the Chief, if properly engaged, should have been able to detect a problem with one of his sailors. [Said in the most sarcastic of tones possible]Very sad story. My most sincere thoughts and prayers to the families involved.
It is very sad. But, just as NavLi4 said, there will be some sort of knee jerk reaction. I am sure that it will be somewhere along the lines of an "unofficial" policy that students are not allowed to have firearms in their dwellings off-base and if they own firearms they will be "highly encouraged" to store them in the base armory. I am sure that the Staff will be tasked with ensuring that students are "choosing" to not have firearms in their possesion. There will hours of extra training for staff and students over the dangers of underage drinking, guns, and the combination of the two. Once again, the command structure at NPTU will do everything imaginable to try to prevent what was most likely a random act of stupidity that was unlikely able to be foreseen or prevented without uber draconian measures such as those stated above.
Nothing like throwing in a little slice of bitterness to an already grim thread.....but it's probably true.
