Looking for position in ILT class
« on: Jul 02, 2010, 07:35 »
I am looking for a position to obtain a SRO license or a teaching cert.  Currently I am a STA in the control room at a PWR. I am not licensed/qualified as a STA but perform many of the same duties, mainly administrative in nature and have been doing this for a year. Before this position I worked in plant engineering as a civil engineer. I have 10 years engineering experience. My wife an I would like to live near the east coast or gulf of mexico. Preferrably, I would like to be trained on a new eactor. Any info regarding future license classes would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I know that the STA position does not require a license, but I have never heard of a company that actually did this.  Did you mean that you are not qualified as a SRO?

That's correct - not qualified as a SRO. I am qualified as a SE (Shift Engineer) although I think this is just recognized by our plant. Some of our STAs receive a license bonus so I am assuming they are maintaining a STA license. Info at our plant seems very guarded for whatever reason. Anyway, I have been searching jobsites and company websites for ILT positions. I was just wondering if anyone knew when future license classes would be starting up and where. I have been promised a position in the next ILT class at my plant but dont know if this will actually happen as space is limited.

Nine mile point will be hiring for a class in November, calls to start in August. Beaver Valley is currently hiring for a class. Vogtle too. If you are searching the sites, I am not sure what info you are looking for that you haven't already found, unless by future you mean things that may not be posted yet. I found these three in about 2 minutes.

I am interested in Vogtle, ie, in that part of the country and would love to be trained for the new units. I have not found any ILT postions on Southern's site. Can you send me the link or the job posting? Thanks.

Wait a minute...

I apologize. That must have been stored in my browser's cache. I cleared cache and it no longer comes up for me either.

Anyway, I would find some contact info on their site, and email them regarding the posting number and see if they are still accepting anything. I happen to know one person who applied but the company wanted to cheap out on them so they never followed through with an interview, and this was only 2 weeks ago, so there might still be something open.

Beaver valley, byron are also hiring. may i ask what plant you work at? i am also a non-licensed sta. we get 50% of license premium and also a lower salary. it is supposed to be a stepping stone to license class...we shall see. i have been passed up once already...
just keep checking companies websites, eventually they will post.
