Just seperated from Navy. where's to start?
« on: Nov 10, 2011, 06:26 »
I was on a fast attack sub, qualified senior in rate, but did not finish my 6 year contract. I graduated in the top 1/3 of NFAS, NPS, and NPTU
I am also a EM

So far it seems like my best bet is AO.
Ive seen that i need to take this POSS test, but cant find out where and how to take it.
TVA emailed me to take it but i was still stuck at pearl harbor, now that im out i live in Tennessee and cant seem to get TVA by phone or email.
I'm willing to do any job anywhere, but I just dont know where to start, Ive just been sending out resumes and applying at random places around the country.

Its not like people described it, Navy nukes always believe you get out and there are 10 guys with briefcases full of money and a herd of stippers ready to hire you as soon as you leave base. (exaggeration, but the point is the same)

Have you tried TVA's website?  We just finished interviewing for a NAUO (AO) class.  I don't know if we've stopped accepting applications.  Check the website and PM me if you need any other help.

Tell me more about this herd of strippers.  Seriously though, I hear what you're saying.  Seems like they ought to take a big bite out of a reality sandwich.  There are lots of great jobs out here for all you baby nukelings, but you have to knock on a few doors to get them.

I'm really willing to work anywhere that pays a decent wage, so far AO has looked promising.
I guess I'm just impatient, ive only been out of the navy less than 2 weeks, I just see my nest egg shrinking everyday and it scares me.

Plus, going from a submarine to unemployed leaves me TOO much free time, I'm actually bored for once, I raked the neighbors leaves for fun.

PS: Im located in TN so TVA is my dream employer, but I'll relocate anywhere

Shouldn't that be "separated"  from the Navy?  Furthermore, you didn't say if you didn't finish your contract due to health or some sort or problem on your part.  If it was from a problem under your control that may be the cause of the recruiter apathy.
