Getting in...
« on: Feb 28, 2012, 01:42 »
I was looking to bounce some questions off y'all and see how it is for everyone. I'm in the process of finishing my associates in Nuclear Engineer Technology at my local community college in May. It's run with help of PPL at their Susquehanna plant. We we're trained in three basic areas of Health Physics, Operations, and I&C. I have already begun applying for positions all over the US, but the jobs look daunting and entry level jobs seem scarce. I contacted Penn State to see about getting my BS in Nuke Engineering and transferring to them seems simple enough. My basic question is should I just continue to apply and hope to get picked up by a utility? Further my schooling? Being a licensed operator interests me the most, can I obtain licensure with an associates?

Any advice would be welcomed! Thank you, Mickey

Yes.

Good luck!

Yes. Hiring is always cyclical, so keep trying...a job will come around eventually.  BUT, stay in school until you do get hired...it keeps your knowledge fresh AND looks better to a potential employer than flipping burgers while you wait...

Good luck!
