Marine Corps prior service - Navy Nuke?

I was referred here to these forums by a number of sites, so figured I could get some valuable information regarding my case.

I served in the USMC as active duty and chose not to reenlist and was honorably discharged in October 2011. Since then, I have been trying to work with Navy recruiters to get into the Nuke program, but they are stating prior service waivers are not being granted and they told me they are not even willing to try.

In terms of my service, I have no NJP's on record, have no medical issues, physically fit, no criminal records, male, and currently 23 years old. My ASVAB score when joining the Marines 4 years ago was a 95 and am fully confident retaking it will not be a problem. Is there anything I could possibly do that might get me in the right direction?

The recruiter has the most to gain from placing you in a nuke billet, so the fact they are telling you that they aren't willing to try (when they ARE waivering juvie crime and sad panda meds for non-OSVET first timers) should be an indication of 1) the subtle genius of NAVMILPERSCOM in setting such a policy  and 2) the kinder, gentler 21st century Star Trek fleet they desire, without cynics pointing out the P.C. favoritism

If you did get nuke, what rate would you desire?

I was discharged as an E-4 from the marines, but I noticed here (and was told somewhere else) that I would be granted E-3 in the event when I graduated from the schools for the job. I'd certainly not have a problem with that if this is true.

Ahh yes, that old rate and rank confusion.

EM? ET? or the grandest of them all... MM? If being a badass isn't your thing, you can be a MM with ELT school.

E-4 was my pay grade, being similar to a Petty Officer 3rd Class. My MOS (basically my job) was 5711, being Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Defense Specialist (CBRN, used to be known as NBC). I'm afraid I am still quite new with the Navy view of things as Marines do not have their jobs involved with what rank they are, other than being involved in promotions.

EDIT: Figured out what exactly you're asking. My goal is to be ET, although obviously we're all quite familiar with "Needs of the Navy/Corps".
If i'm stuck elsewhere, i'd think I would likely learn of how the other two jobs work too.

I agree with Dave. I can't believe they aren't scrambling to scoop up a vet with a proven record. Something seems terribly wrong with this.

Kind of baffling me too really. Did my 4 years like a good boy, I guess I need to have picked up a medal of honor or something to be able to re-enlist.

I should just keep trying other recruiters then?

Ah, it seems that the needs of the Navy's Marine Corps and the your previous job classification is higher then the needs of the Navy's nuclear program.

I would bet there are more applicants for the job you want then for the one you left behind, and always remember that the Marines have an invested interest in you.
