Please help the new guy!
« on: Mar 11, 2013, 07:48 »
Hello all,

I've been checking out this site for about a month now and I have gained some great information about the POSS test. I'm in a pretty rough spot because I have no experience in this field. I spent the last 10 years on a fire truck for a big city, before i broke my back in a fire and was forced to medically retire ( I'm still in great shape, just can't be back on a truck due to an NFPA law). I have always been interested in Nuclear Operations and recently dropped an application for an AO position out here in AZ. I know that I'm competing against Navy Nukes for this position and I know that my chances are slim to none. Is there ANYTHING I can do to be more desirable? I have a ton of certifications ( Paramedic, Technical rescue, Hazmat etc) unfortunately none of them help me in the Nuclear world! Any help would be greatly appreciated from me and my family.

How about fire brigade? AEP is hiring a fire protection tech. Not sure if your back would disqualify you or not.

Yeah I have thought about going that route as well. I'm pretty sure I'll get shot down once they take a look at my medical history. I'm definitely gonna take a look at it though. Thanks for the recommendation!

I know of a guy that was forced out of the Fire Brigade due to a back injury he had. It was unrelated to work and he had healed from it but they still got rid of him.
