identification-Real ID Act and Nuke plants
« on: Oct 06, 2024, 02:35 »
The real ID act of 2005 has been delayed in enactment and enforcement for years and years but there is a new deadline for implementation, which includes nuclear plants, set for may 2025.

Without going into all the details, and potential extensions still lingering out there, the way this matters to nuclear workers is when you go through the nuclear in processing, only identification with the real ID identifier (usually a star) or a passport would be accepted. I realize people have their reasons for not getting the real Id license or identification card, but in those cases, you will need to provide a passport.

My only intent on this post is to give a heads up, and to share amongst your peers or halls, so folks have time to obtain the appropriate identification.

You’re right…the May 2025 deadline is fast approaching. Also keep on an eye on changes with the new administration.  It’s unknown if real Id is going to proceed, stop, go away etc.

I was notified by my security department that the NRC has pushed it out until May 2027 pertaining to access in Nuke facilities.  I have also been informed that 2 of our clients, regardless that the NRC pushed it out 2 more years, will implementing Real ID requirements May 2025.   I am in the process of trying to get this run-down industry wide and will post again as soon as I get confirmation on the 2 (+ any others) that plan on launching May 2025
