The initial cleanup consisted of testing in 1980-1983 from the State, EPA, and the Department of Energy (DOE). Testing revealed that there were low levels of Th contamination at several locations. The site was then assigned to the DOE in 1984. The removal of soil was immediately started.[1]

   Well, here is one that really is taking a long time. It operated from 1918 and 1936 and from Luminous Processes, Inc. between 1937 and 1978. It is not in this article but some of the cleanup occurred until the budget ran out each year, then started again the following year as Illinois was held responsible for half the cost. The older the facility the less regulation and understanding of risk.

Not sure when they started but Argonne National Lab did annual body counts of the Radium girls The last one died in 2014.
