VY was my first commercial plant out of the Navy. Probably the best place for a Navy ELT, they did not stick me at a control point to transition. I operated the sipping panel as they got a bad batch of fuel and decided to shut down and remove them. Pilgram did not and it showed. At the end of my shift on the panel I went down to the lab and ran the GELI to analyze the sample. I did job coverage where I slung some lead sheets on my own before there were shielding packages to prevent compromising safety basis, this was late 70s not as regulated as today. I shipped drums of waste staging them in such a way as not to exceed shipping limits. Quite a change from submarine life. After 26 Nuclear plants, 3 DOE sites and a uranium processing facility I have fond memories of VY, the house staff and the area that seemed to be a retirement community for old hippies. I am grateful for the house staff that tolerated an arrogant young Ex squid and gave him an experience that made his introduction to the commercial world much easier.

Quote from: Mounder on Sep 29, 2025, 03:27D&D the only naval nuclear building at INL and then ask for more stuff to be built. All because no one wants to go to Idaho. Brilliant.

I believe he was referring to the program not any specific facility.
