Background: I have 3 years left in the Navy. I am a Nuke MM1. I did my sea tour on a fast attack and just got to shore duty. I am an instructor, primarily teaching both QAI and QAO, but also will teach HPAC, R-114, R-134A, Advanced PVO and Gage Calibration. I have been to all of those schools also. I am also going to finish my Master Training Specialist cert. On the boat I was the M-Div Leading Petty Officer for a little over a year before I left. I was also the Assistant Quality Assurance Officer for about 1.5 years. I got my supervisor NEC along with my instructor NEC. I qualified all the mechanical watch stations, along with qualifying EWS and EDPO. I finished my Power Plant Utilities Operator journeyman certificate. Now on shore duty, I am working on my BS - Nuclear Engineering Technologies from Excelsior College. On the side, I am a volunteer fireman, working on my Emergency Medical Technician certification. I have my firefighter 1 cert and will be working on my firefighter 2, fire instructor and most likely HazMat Technician certification, among a bunch of other ones.
Now, (sorry for the list above) my question is, what else should I be doing, working on, thinking about and every other variation of the question, in the next 3 years before I get out. I really want to work in the Quality Assurance field, not necessarily in the nuclear sector but it would be preferable. Or I would be working towards working in the maintenance/planning side of the house rather than the operations side of nuclear power. Mostly a personal preference, but I wouldnt totally rule out operations. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
