Hi All!

My husband is navy nuke and he is currently an instructor (MMN1, almost 8 years of service) at prototype at NNPTC. His contract ends October 2025 and he would immediately like to transition to the civilian nuclear world. He is from the DFW area, so ideally, he would like to work at Comanche Peak. I have shared this forum with him to share some advice from previous posters. Unfortunately, he will not be able to get his EWS qual before his contract ends, because he was told that they are prioritizing those who are staying in. He is heartbroken that he won't receive that qual and is anxious that this will negatively reflect him when applying for jobs at the plants. I am just looking for some advice that I can share with him to prepare for this transition in the next year. What can he do to make himself more competitive?

Thank you!

Of the things worth mentioning, I will mention just one. The EWS qual. really has no impact on employment in the commercial arena, especially since it was a Navy thing. Good luck.

the more things change, the more they stay the same,...

in 1988, the USN NNPP refused to complete an advanced certification for me on pretty much the same basis,...

never hurt me a bit in CIVPAC or CIVLANT,...

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"

Thank you very much, GLW! I will share this with my husband. I know that these responses will help with his anxiety.

and the Navy is just doing what's in the best interest of the Navy,...

no use being bitter about it,...

saying "no" to reupping or extending at EAOS is one of the few decisions within the USN where the member can do what's in the best interest of the member (exclusively),...
