I did some changing to the avatars, so you will need to re-pic your avatar.

There is good news:  There are MANY more avatars now, and you can upload your own picture.  The site will even re-size it for you.

Just call me Sam, the American Eagle (with apologies to the Muppets)

In your case it's that leaking drum of greengoo  ;D.  Sorry but I couldn't resist.

It's the picture on the side of your posts.

Avatar - From the Sanscrit for the incarnation of Godhead, an avatar is the 'body' you 'wear' in a virtual community - an image which represents you, the user, in this environment.  Your's is curently a drum of green goo.  Mine is a picture of me.

Oh!  (sits back in awe)

I like the upload feature for avatars
as you might guess I like the tremors series.

Darkmatter and Darkson did mine for me.  Thanks guys.

Avatar tips:

Avatars need to have small file sizes.  Large file sizes slow down the page load times for others.  You can reduce the file size by making the original 96x96 pixels.  Optimize gifs to 64 colors.  Optimize jpg to 30% compression.  And optimize animated gif's by dropping a few frames.

An entire page shouldn't be much more than 30k.  We have some peoples avatars that are over 30k, for just them.

I have a high speed connection... but everyone else dosent, and we need to be respectful of their slow speeds.

As I lack a gif animator, and only wish to make the site easier to access, I will just stick with the still drum for the time being.  I believe that it is the best option all around.  Thanks for the tip though.

Send it to me, I'll see what I can do.  I like the animated goo.

Attached is the edited image.  It's actually about the size of the original, unanimated image.  A reduction of 92%

Avatar tips:

If your Avatar looks like "Ted Turner" when appropriately sized, you might want to choose a different one (like a side view!)

I just realized tonight on the "Random Picture" that the Avatar didn't show what I thought on one of the top 5 posters!

speaking of avatars...when will we be able to upload pictures again?  (yes I do closely resemble Homer in real life, but still...)
