dc cook question

Iam a union carpenter out of 687 in detroit, just recieved a call last night about work at cook and was told that they are doing 6-12's out there. I am a noobie to this whole nuke thing -- just wondering what to expect, what do I need to do to get in here- Ive heard about all the security stuff just short of a cavity search that is done with an extensive background check. Iam really not concerned about that -- however just not knowing is the question. The BA didnt have much to say except that there is not much work out there and I would be better off to take it and that it would help me with Fermi-- even though it is like $6.00 less than what I make here at my home local. Just dont know what to expect and it would be awesome if someone could give me a breakdown.

   ...the PHQ (personal history questionaire) that you will be filling out requires addresses, dates and people for the past five years...

   ...questions like have you ever or have you in the past five years will be frequent...

   ...accuracy with addresses, dates and people is the key to being quickly badged (attaining unescorted access to a nuclear power facility)...

   ...honesty is the key to avoiding "denial of access" which, if this happens, will be an issue at all future nuclear facilities...much in the past can be forgiven...willful falsification cannot...

   ...the Minnesota Multi-Phasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) you will be taking is a test designed to detect evasiveness...answer the questions honestly and take the test calmly with no distractions or pre-conceived notions/strategies...

   ...once in the plant avoid the commendable and natural desire to work rapidly...

   ...safety, attention to detail, procedure compliance, pre-planning/staging and situational awareness are more valued in the nuclear industry than in those that you are familiar with...

   ...be observant, calm and watch how others around you perform the tasks unique to this industry...

   ...good luck and be safe...

He is the one that told me 6-12's-- matter of fact it was the dispatcher that told me-- r u saying that it maybe false?? and if so how many hrs should I expect--Iam trying to weigh the options here, because the only way it would be worth the time is because of the overtime and the stability of a 20 month project. The cons are it is 3 hrs away from my home and I enjoy being around my wife and 2 boys-- but we all know how the economy is and it is hard to turn down any work!!

I just would like all the facts before I commit to a decision like this, I was in Vegas and hated being on the other side of the country away from family but this is much closer and the wife grew up in Kalamazoo. Not that it makes it much better but it is much more comfortable with them being closer.

Any word on when they will be hiring travelers for welding/fitting-rumour has it sometime in Dec 08,how will this impact the outage on Unit 2 in Mar 09? Chaos brings many oppertunities!!

Not sure what you mean, we have had fitters and welders coming in for the last 6 weeks.

I spoke to the BA for#190-he stated that they were only taking in local's and that they would contact any traveler who had called them at a later date-sometime in Dec.
