NF Bonuses Change Again
« on: Jun 06, 2009, 01:20 »
A new document, EB_CNRC_012158ZJune09 has delineated new enlistment bonus rules.

Chief among them:
NF rating (source) bonus               ESRB         ESRB-NCF (Navy College Fund)
                NOVEMBER - JANUARY: $23,000     $12,000/350 PER MONTH
                FEBRUARY - MAY:        $25,000     $13,000/350 PER MONTH
                JUNE - OCTOBER:        $21,000      $11,000/350 PER MONTH

Also, and most annoyingly, Enlistment Bonus for College Credit (EBCC) went to $0.

It is unclear (to me) as to what happened to phased enlistment bonus and enlistment bonus kicker, which allowed for NF enlisted to receive 20% of their bonus after RTC, and the rest in 33% portions throughout the pipeline schools (or some such combination).

It also appears that other ratings received new, sometimes significantly increased bonuses by my observation.

These rules apparently take effect June 15, 2009.

Back in my day you didn't receive one penny until you graduated NPTU.  IMHO, that is the way it should be.

I strongly concur.  However, apparently that is too much stress to put on an individual in the current pipeline...

And given the attrition rates currently being experienced in the pipeline, graduating NPTU is all but preordained anyway - so even at 10X the dollar amount, it still wouldn't hold the same motivational value as it did back in the day.

Supposedly they decided sometime between 2000 and 2003 to give students part of their bonus after the completion of Power school for the sole reason of "it gives them some money so they can set up having to live on their own for the first time.  This way they can buy furniture, put down deposits, and other stuff that is a big chunk of change"

Of course, most of us got through just fine having to budget all that stuff in all during Power school and making due with what we could as far as furniture(we rented furniture for 6 months, worked out great).

Good for them--why should Nuke recruits with college credit get any extra money?? Alot of them didn't have enough gumption to make it all the way through their college programs nor does college make anyone smarter or have a better attitude to make it through the Nuclear program----besides a little Physics and Math (if you were in a degree where that was intensive) prior credits wont mean a thing and some prior college recruits may even be less matured as mommy and Daddy supported them as they attended.  Off the subject--but Geico offered me cheaper auto insurance if I had a college degree--In 1988 I was in the Navy 3 years with a wife and two kids, but some college kid would get his auto insurance cheaper because he was educated.  That my friends is crap.  I did later get a Bachelors and MBA while on shore duties in the Navy---and my view remains the same

The Enlistment Bonus for College Credit was actually removed on 07NOV08

OPNAVINST 1160.9, Paragraph 13 states that NF enlistees only get 33% of the enlistment bonus on completion of Power School.  This is now the only method for disbursement, given the elimination of the EBCC.
