So here is my question.....I interview for a NLO position...I get turned down for the position. I recently graduated with an associates in nuclear engineer technology. Four months later I get a call from the plant offering me the job...I accept, I get a start date. I turn down an outage I was suppose to go work and then three days later, the plant calls me and tells me management decided to let the class proceed as is verses bringing me in the middle of it. I not only lost my offer but an opportunity to go work at another plant..Is this common?

No.

I didn't think it was. I'm just very upset over the whole thing. Doesn't really seem fair to me at all!

I interviewed while doing an internship at the plant, so they did my background for that. I have unescorted access to the plant and just finished an outage at a different plant when they called and made the offer. My background info was submitted and cleared before they took the offer back.

Ouch! That seams like a giant steaming pile of  [BS] to me. It saddens me to think that a company can get away with doing this to a person... jerking them around like this. Unfortunately, I think they can even if it isn't right. I don't have any advice to offer except my hope that something works out for you.

Could you possible call the other opportunity back, explain the situation, and see if they have anything to offer?

eviljim35

I agree, it just seems wrong. But I'm definately not giving up. I will keep applying places and doing my research to finally get a valid offer for the NLO position.

Not common, but I have a somewhat similar story. The current company I work for offered e my job pretty much at the interview. Then waited 3 months to make it official. So I put in my 2 weeks notice, then planned it so I gave myself a week between jobs so my wife and I could get stuff done.

So during that one week of "unemployment" my new job calls to tell me they offered me 5K too much! My first official act with them was a pay cut :)

Given I was still making slightly more then my old job, and given I no longer had to pay vampiric Michigan State Tax Istill had the equivalent o0f a 7% raise anyway.

sounds like st. lucie.  I guess ur not going to tell us which plant eviljim?

eviljim35

I'm not giving the plant name as I hope to possibly still get hired some day by them in order to be able to stay close to family and my in-laws. I am really hesitant now to ever believe them again though!

In the event that you ever get hired by them, remember the lesson learned here and ensure it never happens again when you are in a position to do something about it.

Just curious, was the offer in writing?

eviljim35

No not at that point. I was called and made the offer, told to come in that following monday to receive all of that. I was called thursday prior and asked to come in the next day instead. I was then called back that afternoon telling me to go ahead and come on monday, and then the next morning called and told that management changed their mind and my offer was rescinded. It all kinda seems fishy to me, which is why I was asking for input.

It would serve no purpose to know what plants treat people with respect and which plants don't?  uhhh, ok.

eviljim35

maybe something will work out for me in the near future! Thanks everyone for letting me know that it is not a common practice. I was worried that I was going to continue searching for a plant to call home and keep getting screwed in the end!

to the op, yes!!! to anyone on this forum hoping to glean info, no.

I wouldn't tell in your shoes either evil, but it would be nice to know.
