Do you get contacted saying you were given UA after submitting your prints, etc. or do you just proceed to your start date unless you get contacted saying you were denied ?

Your company contact will be your point of contact.  If security requires additional information, they will typically alert your employer, and have them contact you.  Conversely, when you are cleared, they will alert your employer that you have been cleared.  If things go well, it will be transparent to you.  Proceed as instructed by your company contact.

It is likely, that you will show up on your start date, and begin in-processing, before security has completed your file.
