I am getting out in just under a year and just recently heard about SURGEMAIN. As far as I understand its Navy Reserve for engineer type rates who would go work for shipyards if called up to duty. Since it's a relatively new program I cannot find much information about it on the internet nor do I know anyone in it.

Is there anyone on these forums that's a SURGEMAIN member and can give some details about it? I have learned my lesson about trusting recruiters. I would like to hear from someone actually in it.

Good evening.  I retired from the SURGEMAIN program last year.  I was a plankowner for the program as a PO1 and it is a large part of the reason I was able to retire as a Senior Chief.  The work is strictly non-nuclear, but  rather interesting, you have a better chance to travel to places off the beaten path including overseas trips that don't involve lots of sand.  The following link from NKO is a good place to start; https://wwwa.nko.navy.mil/portal/navresnavsea/home/nrsurgemainnewpage.
If you want to know more, PM me with your location and I can get you in touch with the SURGEMAIN liason for your area.
