Hello all,
Does anyone know or have any information on the sta-21 program from nuke school.
I understand the basics of the program but I am curious as to the possibility of crossing over to the intel pipeline while going to school in Charleston.
My brother is looking at nuke school and being told that it is the best place to start of he wants the sta-21 program.  As I understand it though, the navy doesn't like to spend money sending a person in one direction and then have them change routes.  thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.  I look forward to greping as much information as possible from this forum.

there's more,....

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"

Thank you for your quick reply.  A few of them I read through yet others gave some answers I still needed.  I attempted to click on the links but none of them seemed to go through.  What I am grepping from this is that the vast majority of sta-21 apps from the school go nuke o's, is that correct or am I picking up on the wrong parts?

Another question if you don't mind.  has anyone ever heard of someone getting a second offer from Annapolis? I understand that getting a congressional appointment is a big deal and not one to be taken lightly, however is turning one down looked at unfavorably enough to preclude any second chances.  I have been in since 04 and am just trying to get as much experienced info for my sib. As possible.  Thank you again.

Check your settings, every link worked as expected within the last two minutes,...

Second offer? - No.

Not the answer I was hoping for, well thank you for your help with this.  Do you have any suggestion/preference on a rout to take, or is sta-21 going to be his best bet.  He just took his Asvab today and scored a 99.  I don't know what his line scores were but I can find out.

The chances of crossing over are nearly zero.  One Intel selected of 75 qualified. Look at the STA-21 fleet brief (slide 44): http://www.sta-21.navy.mil/fleet_brief.asp

Nukes have a better chance of becoming Nuke officers in STA-21.  Last year, of 37 qualified applicants, 35 were selected for STA-21.

If you enlist to be a nuclear operator through the enlisted nuclear pipeline, whoever does so should be fully prepared to do SIX FULL YEARS on the enlisted side.  I used to work in the indoctrination office at NNPTC, with students coming straight from boot camp and their recruiters told them (including myself when I joined in 2001)... "Go to nuke school, they WILL pick you up"

Needless to say, I went to my sub, did 5 years, then did my instructor duty... now I am a commissioned US Navy Medical Service Corps Radiation Health Officer.  Health physics is awesome.

My advice to whoever wants to join the Navy to get picked up STA-21: Take the experience you can get from being enlisted, while trying to pursue that officer career.  It may not be STA-21 that makes it happen.
