Need suggestions for contamination fixitive on lift rig

We are going to replace lower internal lift rig.  Highly contaminated with significant alpha.  Most disassembly will be by unbolting but the riser legs and rings will be cut

I am looking for fixative that is simple, safe, dries fast and ideally can be applied simply with bug sprayer.   There is also minor(?) issue of getting it approved for ctmt use.   This work will be done on the operating deck accessed from scaffold. 

This job has potential for significant airborne issues if I can't find way to stop it.

I was told at RFETS that the lockdown they used in tents was Suave hairspray. They got it in bulk containers. Dries in minutes.
But that was for the bubble suits, so you could cut the workers out with just a respirator on.... they routinely worked in 10k (yes... k) DAC airborne...

Latex paint was the lockdown used on equipment. 2 coats.

Are you doing this in cavity? I would tarp the cavity top with a custom cover, and provide ventilation, treat it as a permit space.

Either way, when you get to cutting - make sure ALL your PPE are fire retardant when doing hot work. Most PAPR hoods aren't.

You can use the same material used to lock-down Asbestos. Most plants have this on the shelf with the MSDS on file. Just check with your craft insulators and they can give you the name of the material. Just mix with water and spray on with a bug sprayer.

To avoid airborne issues from the application of the fixative (yanno - spraying it on), tent the area and fog it on.

C.C Fix works well.  Bartlett also has a fixative that works well and dries quickly.

I'd venture to say that the guys at Humboldt have the most experience with dealing with this type of situation. What do you think Brett?

Used CC fix and CC wet at one facility. Used CC wet for fixitive prior to doffing anti c's. It is almost a sugar water mix. Used CC fix for a more permanent solution. I was dealing with alpha contamination in the millions. The stuff worked pretty well.

Elmers glue used it at Point Beach to cutup their lift rig in mid 90s. Put about 4 liberal coats on with 30-40 minute cure time between coats. Setup bullpen in Head laydown area, couple good HEPAs, no issues. Good point of contact Bucky Ihlenfeldt at the Beach.
