Once through? I didn't see that in the article, I did see:

"At all times, the cooling water and seawater are kept separate so that contaminants cannot flow from one to the other."

The idea of off-shore/floating nuclear power plants has been bandied about for decades . . . and MIT is just now discovering this entirely unoriginal idea?

On the other hand, the Navy has been making them for decades.  They call them aircraft carriers.  And, strangely enough, the fresh water and the salt water don't mix.
