It's Official: Lights Out for Fort Calhoun

The board of directors of Omaha Public Power District announced today that due to economic considerations it has decided to close the Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant by the end of 2016. Located near Omaha, Nebraska, the power station began commercial production of electricity in 1973. It accounts for 34 percent of OPPD’s total electricity generation and 9 percent of Nebraska’s electricity.

tagline

Sad day for the fine employees of Fort Calhoun. I worked a few outages there and loved working at the plant and the workers were World Class.
