......You can argue all you like but any of these could have been done with political will and good engineering, and making them safe was the reason for cost overruns.....

political will, good engineering and billions of dollars,...

after all, what's 20 trillion dollars in debt between friends?!?!?!?

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.    :-\

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"

I keep trying to remind you that these were proposals in the 50s not trying to justify current construction of either (well maybe the hybrid tank/submarine)

;) ;D

Limited to a ~20 mile range....

20 miles gets you on the beach plus 5 to 10 more inland,...

after that you got your own cannon cockers, treadheads and air power,....

and really, a 90 mm against modern AFVs and MBTs?!?!?!?

not so much,...

sad to say, those 16" hammers are no longer active either,....

then again, one can build a LOT of missiles and quite a few choppers for the annual OPTAR of an Iowa,...

ah well, onwards and on,... 8)

I would add hovercraft, I watched a simulated beach assualt in California that was a coordinated helicopter and hovercraft operation, very impressive. Might add drones of many sizes to the mix there are UAVs that are launched from submarines today.

Now a nuclear hovercraft...  :P   [stir] [devious]
