How long do you need to know someone before you can list them as a personal reference?

GLW

typically longer than the bar last night and breakfast this morning,...

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"

Heck, I've been married with about that history ;-)
Remember who you love. Remember what is sacred. Remember what is true.
Remember that you will die, and that this day is a gift. Remember how you wish to live, may the blessing of the Lord be with you

Are you thankful that it is history?

6 months is good enough. Doesn't really matter though. The background company doesn't want to talk to your references. They want to talk to your references' references.

So make sure your references have references that they can reference when requested.
