The public really ARE pretty g**damn stupid when it comes to Nuclear Power. Thicker casks? Hahaha. Nuclear Experts....hahahahahaha.

If I owned SONGS, and was “forced” to close house (even though it was proven and well understood that running at 70% wouldn't be an issue even without any modifications) I would tell Cali.....screw you, I'm going SAFSTOR. We will remove this scab (2nd greatest source of clean power in Cali....only behind another terrible Nuke known as Diablo Canyon) when we feel like it.....60 years from now.

Dry cask storage is only a big deal at SONGS and Fukushima......everywhere else it’s routine.

I will add, a routine that SHOULD be 100% funded by the Federal Government.......yet it falls on the utility.

The one fact that persists to bother me about the SONGS debacle is that citizens of California seem to think that the land SONGS sits on is theirs. It is not, it belongs to the Federal Government. It's like they think when it goes greenfield that they will get all this beachfront property given to them. They will not. It will stay under the possession of the Department of the Navy as it belongs to the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Uh California didnt force SONGS to shutdown..
No one proved the 70% power limitation, it was a rectal pluck and the NRC shot it down not California

as posted earlier,...

the federal government is the proper recipient of the "screw you" sentiment,...

plus, SCE would have had less than a snowball's chance in hell of building those 2 PWRs on any land under the hegemony of California,...

the feds giveth, the feds taketh away, the fed's rules on the fed's real estate,...

the feds say "No SAFSTOR",...

IIRC, the feds reserve the right to demand no man made nuclides allowed to remain,...

"no" as in "none",....

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"

The 70% thing was merely an offer with no analysis. The Feds said are you willing to accept a 70% final license? SONGS said well no we arent as we reserve the right to... given their poor oversight of the SG Design and fabrication the Feds said thanks but no deal. Cali had zero to do with it.
